Baptism is just the beginning of an incredible journey with Jesus! As parents, we can lead our kids to GROW in their faith by encouraging four simple but powerful habits. In this week’s blog post, you’ll find encouragement and easy next steps for helping your child build a real friendship with God while growing in your own faith too.
If you or your child have been recently baptized, you might be wondering, “what comes next?” After baptism comes the best part about being a follower of Jesus! You get to grow in your friendship with God and get to know Him even better.
There are four main ways that we can grow in our friendship with God. As a parent, you can incorporate these into your family’s daily life to help your kids GROW in their faith!
1) G — Go to church
Commit to going to church! This means attending a weekly service designed for you and your family. It’s important to remember that a follower of Jesus is not meant to be alone in their faith. But they are meant to be part of a community of faith. To learn more, check out two of our other blog posts: How to Do Church and What to Ask When You Pick Up Your Child From MecKidz!
2) R — Read God’s word
Commit to reading and learning God's words in the Bible, knowing that the Bible is your shield against evil, it’s your light to your journey with Jesus, and tells us exactly how to live as Christ followers. Explore what Bible would be the best fit for your child, and get it for them!
3) O — Openly share about Jesus
Commit to openly and freely talking about Jesus. With people in your family, your friends, classmates, teammates, and neighbors in the hope that they may decide to become a follower of Jesus!
4) W — Words of prayer
Finally, commit to praying regularly. Whisper prayers to Him all throughout your day knowing that He hears you, loves you, and wants to spend time with you.
But this list isn’t just for children. These are such easy ways for you to GROW in your faith alongside them. An easy way to show them what a relationship with Jesus looks like. It’s not hard, it’s not some sort of formula, or amount of work we have to do on our end. It’s always about simply GROWing to be more like Him and spending time with Him. Your role in their faith journey is so crucial. So, commit to helping these new followers of Jesus. Your influence is crucial to helping them learn the Bible and obey it, teaching them to pray, and demonstrating how to talk about Jesus by talking about Jesus yourself, and helping them be part of a church.
