Galatians: A New Way of Being Human

In the Bible is a letter written by the Apostle Paul to a group of churches in Galatia (modern-day Turkey). Without mincing words, Paul writes passionately and directly, fighting to help the new Christians leave their old way of life behind, reject legalism, and embrace a completely different way of being human. His letter explores the transformation that takes place when we put our faith in Christ, while also acknowledging the real and ongoing battle between “the Flesh” and the Holy Spirit. Centuries later, his warnings and advice are just as timely for the universal church. In this study, we’ll walk verse by verse through this letter, mining all of its treasures for our lives.  This class is offered at two seperate times: Sundays March 9 - April 6 (8:15 a.m. in person at Meck) Thursdays March 13 - April 10 (10 a.m. in person at Meck and live streamed)

Healthy Conflict

There are few words that elicit a more emotional response than the word "conflict." Some love conflict and even go looking for opportunities to argue. Others get a sick feeling in their stomach at the very thought and avoid it like the plague. Conflict, though, is an inevitable part of life in this world of imperfect people. We frustrate, disappoint and even hurt one another. So, how do we navigate conflict in a healthy and helpful way? Does the Bible have anything to say on the matter? In this two-session, online workshop, we'll define healthy conflict, explore a range of conflict styles, and walk through seven steps that will help us engage conflict in a way that's marked by love. NOTE: This is an online-only class and will NOT be recorded. Due to the sensitive nature of the topic, all participants are expected to turn on their cameras and fully engage. Couples are welcome and encouraged to participate but must do so from separate devices. This class has reached its maximum participants, but we do have a waitlist, as people's schedules may change, opening up a spot for you! If you fill out the waitlist form, we will keep you posted.

God in the Workplace (A Seminar for Men)

A component of God’s good creation is the work that He gives us to do. Yet for many, one’s work life can often feel disjointed from if not adversarial to one’s faith. In this in-person seminar, exclusively for men at Meck, Senior Pastor Jim White will be joined by a panel of men who have followed God’s vocational calling on their lives into the secular workplace. They’ll discuss the workplace as a mission field and how to live Christianly in secular spaces, while also being upfront about the real challenges and potential dangers of living the Christian life at work. NOTE: This is an in-person seminar and will not be recorded.

When we encounter prayer in the Bible or in the lives of great Christian men and women throughout history, we find it associated with power, deep intimacy, healing and peace. Yet for many of us, prayer feels like nothing more than an unspoken wish list, an awkward silence, random ramblings, or an eventual detour into your to-do list or weekend plans. We can often feel like we're doing it wrong, or worse, that no one is listening. In this class, we'll explore the multi-faceted nature of prayer; namely, how it allows us to abide in God, listen to Him, speak with Him, and be changed by Him. We will unpack some of the mysteries of prayer while practicing it for ourselves and with others. And we'll learn what the command to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:16) looks like in our current cultural moment. We hope this class serves as the beginning or the continuation of your own rich and personal prayer life with God. NOTE: This class is a part of a larger study called "A Well-Ordered Life" - a multi-year study, comprising eight separate series, in which we look at what it might mean for us to communally model our lives after Jesus in our modern context. While this is part of a series of classes, participants can take this as a standalone course.

Baby Steps: Beginning the Parenting Journey Well (for parents of newborns to 18-month-olds): Congratulations on entering the wonderful adventure of parenthood! So, what exactly did you get yourself into? More importantly, what kind of parent does God want you to be? In this class, we focus on you as the parent – celebrating your call to be a mother or father and helping you to understand the spiritual impact that you will have on your child. And as your church, we’ll walk you through all the ways in which we aim to support you as you seek to raise your child in a Christ-centered home. Together, we will help you dream big for your child and learn how to make those dreams a reality. *This class is designed for parents of newborns to 18-month-olds. It's also a required class for any parent who plans to participate in the Baby Dedication ceremony.NOTE: Class recordings will not be available for this class.
