Missions Overview

“Missions” is often the term used for going overseas for the cause of Christ – hence the word “missionary.” Sadly, it has led some to feel that missions is something that happens “over there,” creating a dulled sense of the needs on our doorstep.

At Mecklenburg Community Chruch, mission is not something we do; it is something we are. Every day we are on mission to our unchurched friends; every weekend we are on the front lines of bringing Christ to bear on individual lives; every year we expand our influence as we reach out to those who are poor, hungry, or homeless.

Every day, Meck engages this mission – changing lives, changing the world – but as a large and increasingly influential church, we have been given the unique opportunity to foster strategic relationships and opportunities to leverage our impact on a local, national and now global level. Some churches, who are on mission in the same manner as Meck is on mission, call these “extension ministries” in order to convey that while clearly on task with the mission at hand, there is the possibility as a large church of “extending” that mission to other parts of the city – and world – in need. This allows the expansion of our hearts and minds as we see the larger Kingdom of God at work and serve alongside those of different class and color, language and nationality. And in return, becoming even more of a missionary at home.

As you look through these extension opportunities, open your heart to where God might be calling you to expand your reach, move out of your comfort zone, broaden your vision, and extend the mission of Christ.
